Schooner Wharf Bar, known locally and internationally as “A last little piece of old Key West,” is an open air waterfront bar and grill with rustic charm and warmth.
The History of Schooner Wharf Bar:
Paul and Evalena Worthington sailed into Key West in November of 1984 on the classic 1926 Alden Schooner Defiance.
The Worthingtons’ dream was to create a Historic Seaport district at the Key West Bight. Schooner Wharf is now home to the largest working fleet of Schooners on the east coast.
Your hosts, Evalena and Paul started Schooner Wharf at a time when there were shrimp boats in the bight and “Pink Gold” was deheaded in the back room.
The bar began aboard the Brigantine Diamonte in early 1986 as a living room for the waterfront community.
Eventually the bar was moved ashore where a diving board served as the bar top, the top shelf liquor was kept in the top drawer of a filing cabinet, and an eclectic “salvage décor” was created.
As Schooner Wharf grew, a galley was added to serve up fresh-caught local seafood, a raw bar and other island cuisine.
Something fun is always happening with Schooner Wharf organizing more than 30 events each year, including the Holiday Lighted Boat Parade, Wreckers Races, Minimal Regatta, and the Battle of the Bars.
Sit back and enjoy, or get your happy feet on to live entertainment with local and national acts daily from noon until midnight or later, and be amazed with up close and personal magic at Florida’s only Magic Bar.
Everyone from the famous to the infamous to everyday people leave a little piece of themselves at this favorite watering hole.
Late broadcaster/author Charles Kurault remarked, “This must be the center of the universe.”
World famous local treasure salvager Mel Fisher remarked “This place is a treasure.”
Schooner or later we hope to see you here!
